PC DRAM prices increased in the second quarter, global DRAM revenue rose 16.9%
Release Time:2017-09-12
In the second quarter of 2017, DRAM industry revenue performance once again hit a historical high. From the price perspective, because the client has the inventory level increased gradually, the second quarter in short supply situation not as serious as the first quarter, but the overall supply situation is still tight. Standard memory and server memory in the second quarter prices rose more than 10%, the price of mobile memory rose only slightly within 5% due to the Chinese brand mobile phone factory shipments declined. Because it is the traditional sales season, first-line mobile phone manufacturers’ flagship new machine began to enter the market, which will drive another wave of demand of mobile memory in the third quarter. The overall view of the second half of 2017 will still maintain the pattern of rising prices. From the revenue perspective, Samsung still sit tight in the DRAM industry leader position, revenue continued to hit the record, which up to 7.6 billion US dollars, increased 20.7% compare to previous quarter. SK Hynix also had a good performance that the revenue amounted to 4.5 billion US dollars, and the second quarter revenue rose 11.2%. The two Korean factories accounted market share of 46.2% and 27.3%. The two South Korean manufacturers have accounted for 73.5% of the market share in total. Micron Group ranked third, revenue was 3.6 billion dollar, quarterly increased 20.2%, accounted for 21.6% in the market share. By the price continued to rise and process miniature, Samsung second quarter operating profit rate increased to the highest, 59%, SK Hynix rose from 47% to 54%, while Micron rose from 32.5% to 44.3%. Due to rising trend of DRAM prices and no large-scale increase in production in the second half of 2017, profit of each company will be further improved. From the technical development perspective, Samsung"s goal focuses on the 18nm process this year, and nearly half of the output will be used 18nm process at the end of this year. SK Hynix focuses on improving the yield of 21nm and expands the proportion of the process, and the process will be produced massively at the end of 2017. As for Micron, Taiwan Micron memory 17nm process rate is gradually rising to a stable situation, it is expected to have more than 80% of the output are used 17nm process at the end of the year. Taiwan micron wafer Technology has no plan to enter a more advanced process, this year the first target 20nm process yield continued to improve, but next year has been planned at least half of the production capacity to 17nm process. The main target of this year is to continue improve the 20nm process yield, but next year has been planned that at least half of the production capacity turn in 17nm process. Taiwan-based manufacturers, Nanya technology benefited from continued growth of niche-type memory prices in the second quarter this year, the revenue increased 5.9% compared with the first quarter, its 20nm has been officially introduced into mass production, the plan of estimated 30K cast film monthly at the end of this year maintain unchanged. For Powerchip, DRAM revenue margin of a slight decline of 2.5%, the main force was carried out by the equipment transfer in 25nm process and caused a part of the wafer reduction (Wafer Lost). Winbond revenue grew 3.7%, due to the rise in niche-type memory prices, and NOR memory demand increased, DRAM cast has no additional production plans, its 38nm new process is expected in the second half of 2017 can be formally start mass production. The increase will be reflected in the follow-up revenue performance. Modular fingerprint module market was relatively stable, which benefited from the impact of mobile phone market shipments, and all have increased compared to May. The top three remain unchanged, Dongju showed brisk performance, the shipments hit a new high, Holitech rose to fourth place, Truly fell slightly to the seventh place.
